Idaho Agricultural Partnership in Angola

What is the program as far as agriculture is concerned?

Despite having tremendous income from oil and gas exploration and sales, and more than sufficient arable lands, Angola is food insecure and imports large amounts of food products including wheat, corn, alfalfa, silage, rice, poultry, and beef.  Angola offers Idaho farmers the opportunity to bring modern technology to create large-scale farming operations. Idaho farmers have the know-how and skills needed to farm in a semiarid environment and very similar to soils and temperatures found in Idaho. Working with U.S. businesses is high-priority for the Angolan government. 

The program will include business-to-business meetings with Angolan farmers and manufacturers that are looking to partner with U.S. farmers and businesses to develop farms and value-added post-harvest manufacturing projects.  There will be presentations by U.S. businesses on the first day. On the second day there will be presentations by Angolan businesses - followed by direct meetings between the two.  On the third day meetings will continue and there will be field visits to farms close to the capital city of Luanda. The presentations are key to arranging face-to-face meeting between Americans and Angolans.

The Washington Insight Group (WIG) will promote ongoing relationships and seek answers to questions that cannot be sufficiently addressed during the meeting. WIG will continue to support projects as needed involving the Angolan government and our U.S. farmers and manufacturing. 

What would be the involvement of an Idaho farmer, rancher, or ag business? How much of the program is business and how much is humanitarian work?

While humanitarian work is important, this U.S. Business Mission is focused solely on developing business relations between U.S. and Angolan businesses. 

Who should attend — equipment manufacturers! Companies including Spudnik, Parma, Agri-Service, Campbell Equipment, IVI (Industrial Ventilation, Bell Equipment & others. 

Algeria is a great area for new & used farm machinery and tillage equipment. 

If someone in Idaho was interested, what would they need to do.

Idaho businesses would need to complete the registration package, send WIG their passport page and develop a PowerPoint presentation on their company that details experience, years in business, specialty and interests.
